Season 42 was the 12th season since the introduction of Super Sunday selection.
Though it is still called "Super Sunday", this was the second year in a row it was held on Saturday.
The format did not change this year.
Merrimack's win is the second time the team has won in back to back years, and was their fifth straight appearance in the finals. They achieved their fourth title, the most of any team at the time.
