Season 34 was the 4th season since the introduction of Super Sunday selection.
In this season, NHPBS introduced the Wild Card system. The top 15 teams would qualify, with two more teams being selected, at random, from all non-qualifiers. To be eligible as a wild card, a team cannot have appeared on the show within the previous two seasons.
This year featured a two-team tiebreak playoff, and the first Wild Card game.
