Season 1

Host: The first season of Granite State Challenge was hosted by Tom Bergeron, who would go on to greater fame as a Boston talk show host, and then as the host of America's Funniest Home Videos and Dancing With the Stars.

In the first season, 16 teams were selected to compete. There was actually some trepidation about the show. Internal NHPTV records show that concerns were raised that the show might backfire, and instead of showing off how much students knew, it would expose them as ignorant or undereducated. But the first season was a hit, and a star was born.
